Smoked Lamb, Pickled Herring and Lief Erickson

What else would you expect for our first morning in Iceland ?

We met our Smithsonian group at the airport, boarded our coach and headed to Reykjavik for breakfast at Cafe Loki.  Geri went for the eggs/veggies and I went native with smoked trout & lamb, pickled herring and LOTS of coffee.

The restaurant was across from what might be the most posted photo from Reykjavic - the church Hallgrimskirkja.

That's Leif greeting visitors to the church.
It's style reminds visitors of basalt columns and I'd call the interior mid-century modern.
Back onto our coach and off to the "Settlement Center" - a multimedia exhibit of the 874 CE founding of Iceland. Several dozen impossible to remember Viking names later, it was a pleasure to get back on the road.

  1. Glad you did the early-arrival-and-luxury-overnight before the group arrived. Prob. made you feel more human on the 17th. Striking minimal church interior.
Re. 874 settlement - I'm curious if the settlers were greeted by indigenous natives.
